FG blacklists firm for allegedly diverting explosives

The Nigerian Government on Thursday blacklisted the Nigerian Development and Construction Company (NDCC), an importer and seller of explosives in Koko, Delta State, for allegedly diverting explosives.

In a statement, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Kayode Fayemi, ordered the company’s business premises should immediately be sealed off,

He also ordered the withdrawal of the company’s licenses.

It says an investigation by the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), reveled the company was involved illegal diversion of explosives between 2015 and 2016.

The minister also warned manufacturers, importers, sellers and end users of explosives in the country to desist from unprofessional activities, including the sale, procurement, storage and use of explosives

He said anyone who disobeys this order will be going against the provisions of the Explosives Act of 1964, the Explosives Regulations of 1967 and other extant policy directives.

Nigeria has been battling Islamic sect Boko Haram for about 7 years now.

It has used explosive to conduct its attack in the past.

The group whose name means, “Western education is forbidden” has killed more than 20,000 people and displaced more than 2.4 million.

However, in the past few months, the military has succeeded in beating back the Islamist militant sect and significantly reduced the amount of suicide attacks on innocent civilians in the northeast. (TV360 Nigeria)
