A tragic incident has occurred in Elele community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, where a member of the Organised Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Godspower, and his colleague, J Boy, allegedly beat a father of two, Confidence Ikechi, to death.
According to Chiwenkpe Ikechi, the elder brother of the deceased, the incident happened after a lady in their compound allegedly insulted Confidence, calling him a drunkard.
The altercation began when the lady poured saliva on Confidence and slapped him, prompting him to slap her back. The lady then decided to call her boyfriend, Godspower, who is an OSPAC personnel.
Godspower and his colleagues allegedly beat Confidence to death using sticks and machetes.
The OSPAC personnel also threatened Confidence’s family, pointing a gun at his brother and mother, and warning them that the case would not go anywhere.
Ikechi, who narrated the incident in an interview with journalists, said, “They drove into the compound, used sticks and machetes to hit him on his chest, stomach, and back, and he started bleeding. The thing they planned, they also did it and killed the young boy.”
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the police have arrested the OSPAC personnel, Godspower, his girlfriend, and her son in connection with the incident.
Although sources said the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Police Command has yet to comment on the incident. (The Guardian)
