Soldiers swoop on suspected criminals in Rivers, arrest 140

The Nigerian Army said they arrested 140 persons suspected to be involved in cultism and other criminal activities early hours of Sunday, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of 2 Brigade Port Harcourt, Captain Eli Lazarus, who disclosed this to journalists, said the soldiers made the arrest during their raid operation at Lagos and Abuja streets, Port Harcourt. He stressed that the raid was in continuation of the Brigade’s operation against criminals and cultists in the state.

Eli further stated that after a serious investigation and interrogation, some of the suspects were freed while 15 were held back and would be handed over to relevant security agencies for further investigation.

According to him, “In the early hours of Sunday, 31 July 2016, men of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army conducted raid operation at Lagos Street and Abuja in Port Harcourt City; one hundred and forty two suspects were arrested during the operation. However, after profiling the suspects, some were released while fifteen suspects were interrogated and would be handed over to relevant security agencies for further investigation.”

The army, however, enjoined the public to continue to provide security agencies with credible information that would assist in the arrest of criminals in the state.
