Bayelsa PDP Exco: We are loyal to Gov Diri, not Wike

Publicity Secretary of PDP in Bayelsa State, Ebiye Ogoli

Leaders of the Bayelsa State chapter of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) have said they only take directives from Governor Douye Diri, not the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The Publicity Secretary of PDP in Bayelsa State, Ebiye Ogoli, told journalists on Saturday that the state chapter of the party has no faction, as all the exco from the state, local government and wards are working as one.

Last week, the factional leadership of PDP in the South South had announced the dissolution of the Solomon Agwanana exco in Bayelsa, appointing Wike’s ally and lead convener of the NEW Associates, George Turnah, as the caretaker chairman.

But Ogoli dismissed the action, and urged the general public and party supporters in the state to discountenance such action.

But the caretaker committee carried on its activities, criticising Governor Diri for sacking about 27 of his aides who attended a rally organised for the FCT minister and President Bola Tinubu, in Yenagoa last weekend.

The factional publicity Secretary, Derri Wright in a statement, condemned the sack, stating that the governor might have done that with the bad blood.

However, Ogoli, spokesperson of the PDP in Bayelsa, said Derri’s statement should not be mistaken for that of PDP in the state, but rather supporters of Wike.

He averred that Bayelsa PDP has no faction and all the state excos and members take directives from Diri who is the leader of the party in the state.

He said: “In Bayelsa state, l want to put the records straight that PDP has only one state exco committee (SEC ) and one single state working committee ( SWC ), which is the one led by Solomon Agwanana.

“To make the particular matter clear, we have 14 working Committee members at the state level. We equally have 25 assistant working committee members. We have 8 local government Chairmen and 17 of their members spread across the 8 local government areas. So we have about 100 of them.

“Then at the ward level, we have about 105 wards and each of them is made up of 17 members. So all of these people, about 2000 in total are safe and well, working together as a group.

“We don’t have any other faction, Wike does not have any faction of PDP in Bayelsa state. Perhaps, he may have supporters which is common with political leaders

“But when it comes to PDP, our party has from the state to the ward level, every of our member, has one single political leader, our governor, that we all follow and take directives from.

“So the best of my knowledge l don’t know where the splinter group is coming from. PDP has just one indivisible family, just one. The Exco too, is one single Exco.” (Weekend Trust)
