Enugu Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Obi Ozor
Ahead of tomorrow’s long anticipated 42 kilometer International Marathon race competition holding in Enugu State, the state government through its Ministry of Transportation has announced a planned closure of 13 of its metro routes, lining the designated routes for the race.
This move according to the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Obi Ozor, is part of the administration’s proactive steps to ensure safety of lives and properties, and to ease traffic control measures for thousands of runners, including international athletes coming for the event.
According to the commissioner, in a release made available to News Express, “The Enugu State Ministry of Transport wishes to inform the general public of a scheduled metro shutdown in view of the International 42km Marathon, taking place this Saturday, 3rd May 2025.
“Following a successful route reconnaissance, the following key metro roads will be fully locked, and completely closed to vehicular movement from 6:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.”
The affected routes to be temporarily shut down during the period include:
Ogui Junction to Shoprite to Subway (Okpara Avenue),
Subway Junction to Radio Nigeria Junction to Kingsway Road to Prisons Junction to Akwata Junction to Mgbemene Junction.
Coal Camp to Police Detective College Junction.
Mgbemene to Ziks Avenue Junction.
Police Detective College Junction to Edozie to Keyeta Road to UNEC
UNEC to Spar Junction
Spar Junction to Monkey Roundabout (EFCC Road) and NTA Road.
Ike Ekweremadu Road to Okpara Square.
Bisala Road to Government House Road.
Chime Avenue, Ogui Road to Old Artisan Junction.
Tunnel to All Saints Junction.
All Saints Road to Ekulu Primary School Junction to Bridge Waters Hotel, and
Okpara Square to Toscana Hotel to Nza Street to New Haven.
As an alternative, the commissioner informed: “To ease movement and reduce disruption, commuters are advised to use the following routes:
1. Police Detective College Junction to Gariki.
2. ?Uwani Area.
3. ?Achara Layout.
4. ?Maryland.
5. ?Trans Ekulu.
6. Abakpa.
7. ?Emene.
8. ?New Artisan to Mega Filling Station (Naira Triangle).
9. ?New Market to Golf Estate.
10. ?Toscana Road to Artisan to Goshen Estate to Mega to Emene.
According to Dr. Obi, this implies that “there will be no vehicular movement in the affected areas during the closure period. All motorists, commuters, and residents are advised to plan their routes ahead of time and cooperate with traffic management personnel,” he advised.
