ICA President-General, Engr Ikenna Ellis Ezenekwe
The Igbo Community Association (ICA) in Abuja has firmly denied reports of a leadership crisis within its ranks, asserting its unity under the legitimate leadership of Engr. Ikenna Ellis Ezenekwe.
The association further accused Eze Ibe Nwosu, a traditional leader, of making unilateral appointments and presenting individuals as ICA representatives without constitutional or democratic approval.
In a statement signed by Engr. Ezenekwe, President-General of the ICA, the association emphasized that its leadership was duly elected in November 2024 through a transparent and democratic process.
The statement further condemned Eze Nwosu’s actions as unauthorized and illegitimate, warning that such moves risk undermining the unity of the Igbo community.
It reads: "The Igbo Community Association (ICA) in Abuja wishes to clarify its stance in light of recent reports suggesting a so-called 'leadership crisis' within our ranks. We categorically refute the existence of any factions within the ICA. The association remains united under the legitimate leadership of Engr. Ikenna Ellis Ezenekwe, who was duly elected President-General in November 2024 through a democratic and transparent process, in full accordance with our constitution.
"The ICA has observed with concern that Eze Ibe Nwosu has unilaterally appointed individuals to leadership positions, presenting them as ICA representatives. These appointments are neither constitutionally sanctioned nor democratically endorsed by our members. As such, Eze Nwosu’s actions are unauthorised and lack legitimacy.
"While Eze Nwosu is at liberty to establish his own organisation, he must refrain from misappropriating the ICA’s name and identity for personal agendas. Such actions risk undermining the unity of the Igbo community and contradict the democratic principles we uphold. The ICA firmly rejects these efforts and urges all stakeholders to disregard any parallel entities purporting to represent our association.
"We also unequivocally dismiss the baseless allegations of financial impropriety directed at our leadership. These claims are a smokescreen intended to divert attention from Eze Nwosu’s refusal to respect democratic processes. Our operations are transparent, and our financial records are open for review by any credible authority.
"We call on the Igbo community in Abuja, across Nigeria, and in the diaspora to rally behind the ICA’s legitimate leadership. We further urge the relevant authorities to address the disruptive actions of Eze Nwosu, which threaten democratic norms. The ICA remains steadfast in its mission to promote unity, drive development, and serve our people and the nation."
