Tension has erupted in Mgbakwu community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the alleged killing of a middle-aged woman by a stray bullet fired by an operative of the Udo Ga Achi security network.
A video currently trending online showed the lifeless body of the woman who is said to a trader in a pool of her own blood in the market area after being struck by the stray bullet.
Other traders were seen in the video crying and calling on the state Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, to urgently address the actions of local vigilante operatives.
A male voice in the video was heard saying that Operation Udo Ga-Achi has killed an innocent lady.
He said: "Operation Udo Ga-Achi has killed an innocent lady that was in her own. They were shooting harrasing gun and shot a lady in the process. Soludo do something. This people have left what they were sent to do to do another thing."
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that the command had taken control of the scene and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the killing.
He assured the public that a statement would be issued later.
Recall that the security network was officially launched in early February 2025 by Governor Soludo as part of efforts to combat insecurity in the state and following their launch, the state has experienced relative calm.
