The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Anambra State Branch, has decried the ghastly auto accident at Oba in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state which involved operatives of the state Anti-Touting Squad, noting that it would have been avoided.
The group In a condolence message prayed God to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant their souls eternal repose.
The condolence message was contained in a press statement issued to newsmen by Comrades Vincent Ezekwueme and Chidi Mbah, Chairman and Secretary respectfully.
The group also prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and for God in his infinite mercy to give the bereaved the grace and fortitude to bear and endure the irreparable and irreplaceable loss.
It added: "May they accept our heartfelt condolences and assurances of our prayers at this mourning and sorrowful moment.”
While mourning the four persons who lost their lives, the CLO sympathized with families, loved ones, the State Anti-Touting Squad and Anambra State government over the demise of some officers and men of the State Anti-Touting Squad.
CLO however called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to constitute a committee of men and women of impeccable character and integrity to unravel the circumstances surrounding the accident.
It observed that if traffic rules and regulations were strictly observed, the ghastly accident would not have occurred.
The group further condemned the lack of sympathy, indifference and the ill-mannered attitude of some eye witnesses at the scene of the accident, and called on Soludo to conduct training and re-training of staff members of government Agencies and Parasatals.
It explained that the training will help to inculcate civility, patriotism, love and respect for citizens, as well as decorum and strict adherence to the rules of engagement.
Anambra CLO added: “it is pertinent for motorists to always avoid route violations and ensure strict adherence to traffic rules.
“We equally extol State Sector Commander FRSC Mrs Joyce Nnennaya Alexander for her prompt and immediate response in mobilizing his team that led to quick restoration of normalcy and controlling of traffic at the scene of the ghastly accident.”
