Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevweri
Delta State Government has suspended two engineers attached to the Ministry of Works over alleged substandard job executions in the state.
Addressing journalists in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, who did not mention their names, said they were suspended following the series of poorly executed infrastructure projects uncovered during inspection across various parts of the state.
He said the contractor’s alleged offenses, raised concerns about accountability and project supervision within the ministry, especially as Governor Sheriff Oborevweri’s led government has zero tolerance for negligence and corruption.
While expressing disappointment over the substandard work, Aniagwu stated that the suspension is part of ongoing efforts to ensure strict adherence to quality standards in public projects, saying the state is committed to transparency, accountability, and the delivery of sustainable infrastructure for Deltans.
“They have admitted to the things that they were accused of and we are using them to show minor examples but after that, anybody who thinks because we tempered mercy with justice and want to progress along that line the full weight of what the civil service rules provides will be used on such a person,” he said.
“So we are already showing examples with individuals. As I speak those two engineers are on suspension and so that tells you that we are serious when we say value for money we are not joking.
“Any engineer, any civil servant that connives with a contractor or that inadvertently makes us lose money, thereby vitiating our results to get value for money, that person will go in for it, and we mean it irrespective of how highly placed, the governor is very clear about it.” (The Guardian)
