The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Nigeria, Mr Ibrahim Idris, on Saturday withdrew the services of mobile police officers attached to individuals as security ‎aides.

In his speech at the passing out parade of 59 Squadron Commanders Combat Operation Course at the Police Mobile Force Training School in Ila Orangun, Osun State, the Acting IGP said the police mobile force was the striking arm of the police and should not be used as a security aide for individuals.

It was his first official assignment after his announcement as the Acting IG.

On arrival at the Police Mobile Force Training ‎ School, he was received by the Assistant Inspector General in charge of zone 11, Kalafite Adeyemi and the Commissioners of Police in Osun and Oyo States, Femi Oyeleye and Leye Oyebamiji respectively.

Afterwards, he was treated to a demonstration by some mobile officers.

After the welcome formalities, the Acting IG proceeded to the hall for the main event – the passing out parade of 59 Squadron Commanders.

The ceremony is coming after three weeks of intense Combat Operative Seminar and Training.

The Squadron members, selected from across the country, are now set to proceed to their various duty posts.

Mr Idris admonished policemen and officers especially those in the Mobile Unit to rise up and nip Nigeria’s security challenges in the bud.

The host, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who was also at the ceremony, ‎called for improved police-public relations to gain the confidence of the people.

Addressing reporters after the event, the Acting IGP said he was ready to work towards bringing to an end the persistent clash between farmers and herdsmen across Nigeria.

Equipped with the required training the 59 Squadron Commanders are set to give in their best at the various commands to ensure that law and order is maintained. (Channels TV)
