Sly Ezeokenwa
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said that the decision of the Commission followed the judgement of the Supreme Court which has been served on the Commission.
Olumekun stated that the electoral body at its meeting earlier in the day addressed the protracted leadership tussle within APGA, which has been the subject of legal battles.
Olumekun said that in compliance with the judgement, the Commission now recognises Ezeokenwa as the APGA Chairman.
“The commission has been served with the judgement of the Supreme Court with Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024 APGA & ANOR vs OYE & ORS, delivered on 27th November 2024, recognising Barr. Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of the party,” the statement reads.
“In compliance with the judgement of the apex court, the Commission has restored Barr. Ezeokenwa as the chairman of APGA and restored his name on our website accordingly.”
The Supreme Court judgment, delivered on November 27, 2024, affirmed Ezeokenwa as the APGA national chairman.
In a unanimous judgment, a five-member panel led by Stephen Adah ruled that Edozie Njoku was wrong for parading himself as APGA national chairman.
Since 2023, Ezeokenwa and Njoku have been locked in a leadership tussle, leading to multiple litigations. (Channels TV)
