CSP Shola Jejeloye
Suspected vandals have allegedly infiltrated the headquarters of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), a unit of the Lagos State Police Command, stealing the brain box of the RRS Commander?s official vehicle.
The incident occurred overnight on Sunday, December 15, when the Toyota Hilux belonging to CSP Shola Jejeloye, the RRS Commander, was targeted.
The vandals shattered the vehicle?s windscreen and made off with the brain box and other valuable components, while stationed officers were reportedly on duty.
The theft at the Lagos RRS headquarters, a crime-fighting unit, has sparked embarrassment and outrage, with many questioning how such a brazen act could occur in a high-security environment.
Security experts and insiders have expressed concern, with speculation rife that the incident may involve insider complicity.
Observers have also criticised the RRS, calling for a reassessment of its internal security protocols to prevent future breaches.
Many have questioned their safety regarding security matters, asking how the RRS can assure the safety of Lagosians elsewhere if it cannot secure its commander?s vehicle within its headquarters.
Authorities are yet to issue a detailed statement on the incident, but pressure is mounting for answers as the RRS works to restore public confidence.
It was reported that in 2019, two arrested vandals shed some light on the shady business, saying it takes between two to four minutes to steal a brain box.
The suspects, Sodiq Musa (28) and Saidu Atiku (34), were nabbed by the RSS operatives on Awolowo Road, Ikeja, with three Toyota brain boxes in their possession. Musa, while speaking to journalists during a parade said: ?It takes two minutes to remove a Toyota Hiace brain box and four minutes for a Toyota Hilux.?
He added that they wrap the plug in a handkerchief to work on multiple vehicles discreetly. (The Guardian)
