Commissioner of Information in Anambra State, Dr Law Mefor
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
The Commissioner of Information in Anambra State, Dr. Law Mefor, has accused Prof. Obiora Okonkwo of contributing to the state’s security problems.
He stated that Obiora who contested the 2021 governorship election in the state, like other politicians, recruited and armed youths in the course of the polls but abandoned them afterward, leaving them without disarmament.
Addressing some journalists in his office in Awka, Mefor said that the recruitment significantly contributed to the state’s insecurity.
He criticized Okonkwo’s recent interview, where he described Governor Soludo as a problem rather than a solution to Anambra’s issues.
The Commissioner observed that before Soludo’s tenure, hoodlums had taken over nine local government areas, which Soludo had since reclaimed.
He acknowledged that the security situation remains less than ideal, but credited Soludo for reasonably curbing insecurity in the state.
Recall that Okonkwo had previously expressed concerns about Anambra’s deteriorating security, saying, “Anambra is becoming a ghost state… the security situation got worse when Soludo took over.”
He also questioned Soludo’s leadership style, suggesting that it might be designed to keep people away from the state to secure a second term in office.
