Dr Jamil Gwamna, the Managing Director of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), has assured members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) that the era of staff casualisation was over.
The assurance is contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the company, Mr Mohammed Kandi on Friday in Kano.
Kandi said the assurance was given by Gwamna on Thursday when he received a team of NUEE leadership, led by the General Secretary, Mr Joe Ajero, who was on familiarisation visit to Kano.
The public relations officer said “the KEDCO boss, who heeded the plea by the Union to consider issues of casualisation among others, also called for partnership with NUEE members to enable the company ti achieve its strategic plans.”
He said that the electricity company boss sought partnership with the Union “in order to address the challenges bedevilling the growth of the electricity sector in the country.”
Responding, the Union leader pledged his support to the management to ensure that the company succeeded in its effort to improve electricity supply to customers in its franchise areas.
Ajero said that contrary to insinuations in some quarters, the Union was not in a power tussle with the Management of Distribution Companies, investors or government agencies.
He added that NUEE had a responsibility to ensure that the rights of its members were not infringed upon. (NAN)
