Ogun youths honour Amosun’s wife

As part of activities lined up to commemorate the 50th birthday anniversary of the Wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, the Green Youth Movement, a non-governmental organisation in the State today organised a road walk at the Abeokuta metropolis to sensitise the people on the need to preserve their environment.

The road walk took off from the Government House in Isale-Igbein through Sapon, Itoku, Ago-Oba, Totoro, Quarry Road, Panseke to Omida and back to Government House.

Addressing the people during the walk, Mrs. Amosun explained that the awareness walk was staged to encourage the people of the State to plant trees to protect the environment from degradation.

She encouraged the people to stop air pollution and think of projects like renewable energy and waste recycling to save the environment particularly in view of the global warming.

“We have to be creative and plant trees to sustain the environment. You can plant cash crop trees to earn a living,” she said.

Also speaking during the walk, Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Otunba Dayo Adeneye, urged the people of the state to embrace cleanliness as a way of life to enhance environmental sustainability.

Coordinator of the Green Youth Movement, Mrs. Ebunlomo Tayese, commended the wife of the governor over her various initiatives on going green.

She charged the youths in the state to embrace the green culture, noting that the green walk exercise would be sustained to sensitise many more youths in the state.
