The Chief of Staff to the Senate President, Sen. Isa Galaudu, has directed the Chairman of the National Assembly Commission, Alhaji Adamu Fika, to withdraw the appointment of one Mr Sani Omolari as Acting Clerk of the National Assembly.
This follows the directive given by Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Senate President and Chairman of the National Assembly, in reaction to the appointment announced on Wednesday.
Galaudu, in a letter dated 21st April, demanded that the Commission follows due process and ensure that seniority is adhered to. He said that Mr Benedict Efeturi, who is Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly and who has previously acted as the Clerk of the National Assembly, should be the first to be considered.
Galaudu recalled that during the last meeting of the Commission with the Senate President on April 20, 2016, the procedure for the appointment of the Acting Clerk of the National Assembly was discussed.
He complained in the letter that “though Mr Benedict Etefuri served in acting capacity and was not duly appointed as Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, further investigation however revealed that Etuferi was duly appointed by the NASS Commission vide Extract from minutes of its 403rd Meeting, held on Friday, 21st November, 2014.”
Galaudu accused the Commission of misinforming the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, and asked that the letter be withdrawn immediately for further consultations.
