Five family members lost their lives while sleeping when the porch of their building suddenly collapsed at Maigatari town, the headquarters of Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa state.

The deceased, all children of same father, Abdullahi Gambo, were Aliyu 11, Usman 9, Safiya 6, Amir 5 and Fati 2 years.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP Abdul Jinjiri, said three out of the five deceased died instantly at around 1am, while two others died in Maigatari hospital.

Explaining further that two other victims of the incident were the mother of the children and one other child, sustained various degrees of injuries were hospitalised and are receiving treatment in one of the hospitals in Kano.

He added that the incident occurred while they were deeply sleeping in their family compound as a result of the heat that is currently too high to bear.

The PPRO further stated that the deceased have since been buried according to Islamic injunction.
