Ese Oruru: Yinusa still in prison custody over inability to meet bail conditions

Yinusa Dahiru, alleged abductor of Ese Oruru granted bail on March 21 for N3 million and two sureties in like sum, has remained in prison custody for failure to meet bail conditions.

The sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court while one must be a civil servant of not less that level 12 while the second must be a title holder.

Mr Kayode Olaosebikan, counsel to Dahiru, addressing the Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Tuesday at the adjourned hearing of the case, expressed worry over the condition of the bail, saying that they could not meet up with the conditions.

“We were unable to meet the condition that the sureties must be residents in Yenagoa, so, it has been difficult for us to bail him, Yanusa,” he said.

The accused, Yanusa Dahiru, may remain in custody till May 12.

The court today adjourned trial to the said date for ruling on the application of the prosecuting counsel seeking for Ese Oruru to give her testimony in private.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Aliya Nganjiwa, said that the court is ready to ensure that justice prevails in the matter.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Kenneth Dike, who filed the application to the court, said the motion of the application was to take the evidence of the victim in private.

According to Dike, “We are sitting for the constitutional right of the victim, Ese Oruru, for “fair trial.”

“For the interest justice, we must protect her image and future; we are seeking the leave of the court to take the evidence of the victim in private excluding every other persons except the parties and the counsel,” he said.

The Defence Counsel, Kayode Olaosebikan, who opposed the application, said there was no merit in taking evidence in private.

He explained that the pictures of the victim, Ese Oruru, were already in the Internet, print and electronic media.
