Corruption: Group calls for citizen action against Saraki, Senate

An anti-graft group, Citizen Anti Corruption Volunteer Corps (CACVC), has called on Nigerians home and abroad “to resist and rise against the evil plots of the embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki,” accusing him of being “hell bent on undermining the anti-graft war led by President Muhammad Buhari.”

CACVC made the call in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Eze Harris Chuma, a copy of which was made available to News Express. The group strongly condemned on-going efforts by the 8th Assembly move to amend the Code of Conduct Bureau Act and that of Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, alleging that this is aimed towards frustrating the on-going trial of Dr. Saraki by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for alleged false declaration of assets.

According to CACVC in the statement issued in Lagos, “The proposed amendment of Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and that of Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 must not be allowed. Nigerians must not be fooled by those who have plunged this country into economic crisis and its attendant hardship, we must all rise and put a stop to their evil move. We hereby demand for the immediate resignation of Senator Saraki, who is currently facing corruption case at the CCT. It is a very much known fact that Senator Saraki’s case is trapped within the ambit of Code of Conduct Bureau and Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 which was passed into law by the 7th Senate.

“Obviously, there is no hiding place for him and his co-travellers. We have watched with disdain efforts made by Senator Saraki and gang towards frustrating the ongoing trial, and just recently the dance of shame publicly displayed by some questionable characters in position of authority all in a bid to kill the tempo of the ongoing trials. Also, Saraki’s desperate allies in a bid to halt the dwindling fortunes of their corrupt ventures have been so vociferous in condemning the ongoing procedures at the CCT. No patriotic Nigerian will sit and watch while a group of corrupt politicians hold our dear nation to ransom. Let's rise to the occasion and stop them from their evil plots. Great patriots, time to act is now! There is no good enough reason to amend the existing law.”
