Woman in police net for raising false alarm

The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested a woman who allegedly raised a false alarm that put the lives of six members of a family at risk.

This is contained in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmus, on Sunday in Lagos.

Badmus said the family, which included two children, were in a car when the arrested woman alerted men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) that they had snatched her vehicle.

According to Badmus, the policemen chased the family to Ogudu Ori-Oke area of Lagos, where they were able to stop the vehicle

“The operatives were told by the woman that some armed robbers had snatched her Toyota Camry car and the police officers gave the supposed fleeing robbers a chase.

“There was a hectic traffic in the area but in order to catch up with the supposed thieves, the officers alighted from their official vehicle and mounted motor bikes to chase the said robbers.

“However, the family, which never knew they being chased by the police, pulled up when they heard a gunshot fired into the air.

“Then, the police cautiously approached the supposedly stolen vehicle only to discover that the occupants were three female, one male and two children, who were coming from a function.”

She said that the story reported turned out to be a false alarm.

The police spokesperson said the officers swung into action to unravel the purpose of the alarm and found that the woman and the owner of the car transacted a business that failed.

“What really transpired between the woman and the owner of the Camry car was a business transaction which occurred about six years ago.

“The husband to the woman who raised false alarm and the owner of the car transacted a business which had to do with clearing of a second-hand car, which incurred demurrage at Apapa.

“Unfortunately for the woman, the man who transacted the business with her husband was not in the car when she raised the false alarm, but his family members were.”

Badmus said that the experience shown by the policemen who chased the businessman’s family prevented what might have turned out to be unsavoury. (NAN)
