How Kebbi ex-Speaker Jega died with driver in auto crash: Witnesses

Facts have emerged on the cause of the auto crash that killed former Kebbi House of Assembly Speaker Habib Jega.

Mr. Jega died with his driver in the accident that occurred along Birnin Kebbi-Kangiwa road at about 5:21 p.m. on Friday.

Witnesses at the scene of the accident told our reporter that the accident was caused by a burst tyre of the former speaker.

“His vehicle tyre burst with a loud bang. The next thing we saw was the car somersault with him and his driver,” the witnesses said.

Mr Jega died at the age of 49 years, leaving behind three wives and 12 children.

He was an ex-banker who once served as Acting Governor of Kebbi State.

Just some weeks ago he was re-posted from Special Adviser on Local Government Chieftaincy Affairs to Special Adviser Due Process to Governor Atiku Bagudu.

In their condolence messages Governor Bagudu and Deputy Senate Leader Bala Ibn Na’Allah, Senator Adamu Aliero described him as honest, loyal and very dedicated person all his life.

They prayed to Allah to grant the deceased eternal life and the family as well as the people of the state the fortitude to bear the loss.

The late grassroots political chieftain was buried yesterday evening in Jega town according the Islamic rites.

The burial prayer was attended by the governor, top government officials, House of Assembly members and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains, among others.

Late Mr. Jega was impeached in 2015 during the build up to the 2015 general election as rumours emerged he would join the then opposition APC.
