Chibok girls: Dogara challenges Nigeria’s leaders

Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, on Thursday challenged the country’s leaders never to allow politics make them not to discharge their responsibilities. He threw the challenge while reacting to the two years in captivity of the 276 secondary school girls who were abducted from Chibok community in Borno State.

Dogara, in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, said: “If the government had sprung into action immediately the girls were abducted, it is most likely they are with us today.”

He noted that the abduction of women and girls is just one of the many horrors faced by the people of the North-East, at the hands of the Boko Haram sect. “We must also spare a thought and say a prayer for the souls of scores of students who were killed on assembly grounds in Potiskum and in dormitories in Buni Yadi, and other places. May God comfort their parents,” Dogara said, said:

“As leaders, we must ensure that this evil is totally eradicated from our land and that it never rears its ugly head again. We must also protect the younger generation; schools must be safe spaces for them.

“Hope regarding the rescue of the Chibok Girls remains alive, and we in the House of Representatives have vowed to do everything within our power to complement the efforts of Mr. President at getting them back.”
