A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to pay the sum of N10 million as damages to former acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Uche Secondus, after declaring his arrest and subsequent detention by the commission as illegal.
Secondus had approached the court to enforce his fundamental human rights, which he claimed was infringed upon by the anti-graft agency.
In the motion before the court, he asked Justice Tsho to declare his arrest and detention as illegal.
He also asked the court to award damages against the commission.
In his ruling, the court said, “The first prayer of the applicant is hereby granted and the sum of N10 million damages is hereby awarded against the respondent (EFCC).”
The anti-graft agency had arrested Secondus over alleged corrupt practices. (Saturday Sun)
