President Muhammadu Buhari was conspicuously absent from the emergency Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which held today at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa Abuja.
The meeting started at 11am and was presided over by Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. No official reason was given as to why Buhari was not at the meeting when State House correspondents filed out of the Council Chambers for the closed-door session.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, said that the emergency Federal Executive Council meeting was predominantly to avail the ministers the opportunity to study the details of the budget as it concerns their various ministries before the assent of the President. He said that the budget was still work in progress.
A Channels TV report said: “The absence of the President seemed a surprise to the members of the FEC made up of the 36 ministers, the Vice President, and the Secretary to the State Government (SGF).
“The SGF, Mr David Babachir verbally called the meeting to order while Vice President Osinabjo called for opening prayers.”
