Anambra State leaders of thought, among them bishops and traditional rulers, are making frantic efforts to bring back immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi, to the umbrella of the ruling party in state, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Obi had in 2014 dumped APGA to as a result of disagreements with the party leadership and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He is currently being called upon to be the replacement candidate for PDP in the forthcoming rerun election for Anambra Central senatorial zone.
Speaking on the reconciliation moves Thursday in Awka, the Chairman APGA reconciliation committee and a Commissioner for Information during the Obi administration, Chief Maja Umeh, said that some of the clergy men and monarchs in the state were not happy with Obi’s absence from the party after working so hard to keep it together.
Umeh disclosed that bishops and traditional rulers in the state were making efforts to bring Obi back to APGA, saying that the purpose was to ensure genuine reconciliation between Obi and Governor Willie Obiano.
His words: “It’s not within my purview to reconcile those who had left APGA, but it is proper to bring Obi back to our party.
“He has shown demonstrable statesmanship and support for Governor Obiano and it is proper to bring him back to APGA.
“I know that the clergy and our royal fathers are working hard to achieve this and I don’t think it is a difficult task to achieve.”
