Ombugadu and Governor Sule
By GAMBO AHMED, Lafia
Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State have called on the Supreme Court to render justice as it rules today on the governorship election tussle between the party’s David Ombugadu and incumbent governor Abdullahi Sule of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). They said that they have confidence in the Supreme Court.
Speaking to pressmen on Saturday in Karu LGC of Nasarwa State, a PDP chieftain, Mr Garba Sale, said: “We want to appeal to the justices to handle the case of Nasarawa with human face, avoid giving judgement that would bring disunity, sow seed of discords, integration and division among the people.
“We collectively and unanimously gave our mandate to a candidate accepted by all, sotechnicality should avoided in the case of Nasarawa. Our appeal is to return our overwhelming mandate given during the March 18th, 2023 governorship election.”
Garba, who decried the Appeal Court ruling against Ombugadu said it was against the wishes of the Nasarawa people. He urged the Supreme Court to look at the merit of the case, identify with the popular mandate of the people in the interest of peace, unity and cohesion in which the state is known for over time.
In his view, a youth leader in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state, Ewuga James, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for not interfering with the SupremeCourt judgement so far delivered, appealing that such atmosphere be created to ensure that peace is guaranteed in Nasarawa.
He cautioned against any act that could trigger crisis in the state, saying that the right thing must be done for the interest and wishes of what the people voted during the poll.
“Nasarawa State has been over the years a peaceful and loving state. We must do all we can to remain an indivisible state,” Ewuga added.
