Voters in the South East Senatorial Zone of Rivers State have been urged to “avenge the wickedness of Governor Nyesom Wike and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state by rejecting all PDP candidates during the rerun State and National Assembly elections holding across the State on Saturday, March 19, 2016.”
The advice was contained in a statement by the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in which it urged the Rivers South East electorate “to punish Chief Wike and PDP for plotting to kill the Ogoni clean-up exercise and for denying the Zone the opportunity to produce the incumbent Governor of Rivers State.”
According to the statement issued Monday in Port Harcourt by Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, “Apart from ensuring that our oil wells were ceded to his home State, Bayelsa, immediate past President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, based on the advice and influence of Chief Nyesom Wike, then Minister of State for Education, kept the Ogoni clean-up document duly approved by local and international stakeholders in his locker until he left office last May.
“As if that was not enough, Wike, working in concert with Dr. Jonathan and PDP, imposed himself as Governor against the general opinion that the South East Zone ought to produce the next Governor of the State in view of the fact that both the West and East senatorial zones had produced governors for eight years each.”
Rivers APC said that “to add salt to injury, Wike in his sinister plot against Rivers South East has turned the Zone into a battle field between the Army and criminals, thereby brutally cutting short the lives of innocent and hapless souls in Rivers South East. Wike and PDP, therefore, do not deserve a single vote from Rivers South East voters on Saturday.”
Further appealing to voters in the Zone, Rivers APC told them to vote for APC candidates in view of their pedigree and in appreciation of the kind gesture of President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the immediate clean-up of the Ogoni communities and ensuring that the Zone is properly compensated through the appointment of Dr. Dakuku Peterside as the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
The statement listed APC candidates for the rerun elections in Rivers South East as follows:
