Prolific and award-winning writer, Mrs. Nnenna Ihebom, will be presenting a monolingual Igbo Dictionary with illustrations to the public on Friday, March 11, 2016. The book presentation ceremony will be taking place at the Pastoral Centre Wetheral Road Owerri, Imo State, by 11:00 a.m.
Mrs. Ihebom, who won the 2007 edition of Ken Nnamani Prize for Igbo Writing, has several Igbo titles to her name alongside this dictionary which is expected to help in the rejuvenation of the love for the language on and off schools in the country and beyond.
Igbo Language, which has suffered more because of its diversity and lack of books such as dictionaries, has been tipped for extinction in 20 years time and books like this are expected to get the words back in the lips of people.
Mrs. Ihebom is also known for her three Igbo poetry collections for adults and children as well a handbook of Igbo grammar, ‘Mkpanaka Igbo Maka Umuakwukwo”, amongst others.
The dictionary, which is being reviewed by Monsignor T. C. Okere, has also been described as a tool that will help not just people from the tribe, but others who wish to know the language in depth.
