PMAN chief, Patrick Osagie Osakue PVOO
By IFECHI OKOH
There is no doubt that the travails of Afro beat singer, Seun Kuti, in the hands of the Nigeria Police, Lagos State Command, has since ended for good. However, that experience is yet to vanish from the memories of Seun Kuti, the Kutis, friends, fans and colleagues till date.
Hence the former Vice Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Patrick Osagie Osakue, massively called P.VOO, has risen strongly to condemn both the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN) and the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) over their indifference during the travails of the son of late Afrobeat maverick, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
If they don't recognize Seun, dont they recognize Fela who fought for the rights of the common man and later put Nigeria on world music map for years before his death in 1997? he queried angrily.
P.VOO maintained that every musician in Nigeria actually expected both collecting societies to show concern first with Seun as young musician who needs their supports, if not for any other reason, but because he is Felas son.
He said that their unpatriotic action was capable of discouraging both old and new musicians from joiningany of them for the nonchalant manner in which they treated Seuns matter.
No musician in his right senses would be eager to join them after seeing the nonchalant manner they treated Seun Kuti during his face-off with the Lagos State Police Command, P.VOO said.
