Senator Abe to MOSOP factions: Sheathe your swords, accept peace moves by Ogoni elders

Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Rivers South East Senatorial District re-run election, has urged factional leaders of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) to come together and allow elders of Ogoni ethnic nationality to help resolve the current crisis rocking the group.

Speaking today at a forum organised by Kono Youths Vanguard in Kono Community in Khana Local Government Area, Senator Abe said that he had been inundated with calls from Ogoni elders for the need to resolve the crisis so it may not degenerate into violence.

According to Abe, this not the time to apportion blame to anybody but rather for all hands to be on deck to settle the crisis. He appealed to the factional leaders to adhere to the request for intervention made by the elders to resolve the misunderstanding.

Senator Abe stated that Ogoni people should not allow MOSOP to die as the group provides identity, focus and mobilisation for the cause of Ogoni land. He insisted that in the past MOSOP had had crisis and was able to resolve and therefore he is optimistic that the present crisis would also be resolved amicably.

Speaking further, the former Secretary to Rivers State Government condemned what he termed the present neglect of development of Ogoni land by the Governor Nyesome Wike-led administration. He appealed to Ogoni people to keep on supporting APC as adequate transformation of Ogoniland can only be attained through Federal and State development efforts.

“Since the last government, there is no development project going on anywhere in my Senatorial Distric. And there is nobody in Rivers State who will not say that a change is not only desirable but it’s imperative. We cannot continue to live in insecurity and under a government that will not spend one kobo on development projects. We are waiting for Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside,” Senator Abe said.

He urged the youths to continue to be law abiding and shun violence especially during and after the forthcoming State and National Assembly re-run elections in the state.
