Abductors of Bayelsa Commissioner demand N40 million ransom

Abductors of Bayelsa Commissioner for Local Government, Madam Serefina Otazi, have demanded a ransom of N40 million, according to family sources.

Otazi was abducted at gunpoint on December 20 in Otuoke on her way to Ewoi Community in Ogbia Local Government Area (LGA) for a funeral.

Mr Endurance Frank, a member of the family member, said in a telephone interview on Tuesday that the kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded for N40 million to free the victim.

Frank said that the family was relieved to hear from Otazi and appealed to the kidnappers to free her unconditionally.

Otazi, a niece to former President Goodluck Jonathan, had previously served as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Acting Chairman of Ogbia LGA.

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Governor Dickson’s sister, Nancy Dickson, abducted less than 24 hours earlier than Otazi, remain unknown.
