Observation has shown that there has not been fresh dust outbreak from Sahara desert in the last twenty four (24) hours. The implication of this development is that already existing dust particles in the atmosphere will travel with the prevailing northeasterly winds to affect the horizontal visibility positively especially in the north.
NORTHERN STATES: Maiduguri, Yola, Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Gusau, Sokoto and environ should generally expect improvement in visibility. This situation will impact positively on flight operations to the area. Night time temperatures should be between 11-18oC (degree Celsius).
CENTRAL STATES: Moderate visibility due to dust haze should prevail in places like Bida, Lokoja, Abuja, Ilorin, and environs. Visibility values should be in the range of 2-5km. Night time temperature should be between 16-20oC (degree Celsius).
SOUTHERN STATE: Mist/ Fog should affect Lagos, Oshogbo, Ijebu-ode, Calabar, Port Harcourt and Benin in the early hours of the day. In the afternoon, visibility over the area should reduce to 2-5km due to dust however localised visibility values less than 1,000m may exist. Night time temperature over the area should be between 16-21oC (degree Celsius).
NOTE: During this period of the year, the atmosphere is usually very dry and windy. Citizens should avoid substances that may ignite easily to reduce incidences of fire outbreaks. Flight operations may be disrupted due to poor visibility in some airports across the country.
