The new chairman of Fellowship of Christian Traditional Rulers in Nigeria (FECTRON), Abia State Chapter, His Royal Highness, Eze Godfrey Onwuka, has taken over the mantle of leadership of the group with a pledge to work for the reformation of the traditional institution in the state.

Eze Onwuka, elected during a conference of FECTRON held at Eastern Comfort Hotels, Umahia, said his leadership would work towards modifying customs and traditions of the people to conform with the tenets of Christianity.

“We are not changing our custom and tradition, rather we will modify it so that it will be in consonance with the word of God,” the royal father said, adding: “We are going to change the system so that when you see a traditional ruler, you will know that such a monarch has his taproot and stronghold in Christ and not on any deity or idol. We are definitely going to modify the system so that it will project Christ and that is what FECTRON stands for.”

Eze Onwuka, the Towe l of Umutowe Autonomous Community, Olokoro, and Chairman of Umuahia South Council of Traditional Rulers, maintained that his vision was to take the body to higher heights and appealed to the former executive and other members of FECTRON to support his administration.

“With their support, we shall attain a greater height and l believe God will be our strength,” he said.

He described the former chairman of the organisation, Eze Philip Ajomiwe, as a friend, who performed well during tenure.

He promised to work hard to surpass the achievements of the immediate past administration. “lf you are in any new executive and you did not do better than the former executive, it means that you are a failure. In lgbo land we believe that a son should be greater than his father, so we will strive to be greater than them,” he said.
