20 Boko Haram fighters killed in failed bid to over-run Army Chief Buratai’s town

Nigerian soldiers killed more than 20 insurgents in the north-east state of Borno on Saturday.

The militants attacked the town of Buratai, home of the head of the military, Tukur Buratai, in a dawn raid, according to Yusuf Abdullahi, a member of a local paramilitary group.

The insurgents suffered heavy casualties, Abdullahi said by phone. More than 20 were killed, while many others sustained injuries, he said.

Borno is the birthplace of Boko Haram, which has killed tens of thousands of people since it began a campaign in 2009 to impose its version of Islamic law on parts of Nigeria. President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered security forces to end the insurgency by the end of the month.
