ByIFECHI OKOH
Death, the inevitable end of everymortal which suddenly cut short the life ofNollywood amazon, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, throwing all stakeholders into mourningended formallylast Friday night with an Industry Night gatheringto celebrate her contributions to Nollywood.
It was actually an exhilaratingforum packaged by Association of Movie Producers Nigeria (AMP) in collaboration with Federation of Registered Nollywood Guilds and Associationof Nigeriaand the Lagos State Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) which held at the National Theatre, Igamu Lagos. It pulled all stakeholders in the industry to mourn their fallen light. Watchers of Nollywood must have clapped seriouslyfor the Lagos AGN for putting their lean resourcestogether to remember their late patriot which meant a lot to both the National and state bodies of the guilds.
The attendance was quite impressive, as celebratedactors, actresses, producers and directors stepped on the podium, extolling the virtues of Peace, one after the other in emotion-laden voices, applauding her benevolence.
Showbiz XtraEditor, IFECHI OKOH who is an old ally of the industryclosed up on the Lagos State Chairman of AGN, Emeka Rising on why they had to do all these for Peace.
Hear him: “Our Amazon has really done a lot for us all when she wasalive. So, nothing would betoo much for both the National and State bodies to do for the sake of the memory of our sister and patriotthat would be too much for her. That explains why this place is full of peoplewho feel seriouslyhurt by her death. She took Nollywood and placed it neatly in a position of international recognitionand respect.”
In his own acknowledgement, the Lagos PRO, Jones Ojora, maintained that since Nollywood came into being, nobody has been as benevolent as the late Peace who had a penchant for kindness for mankind. This strong opinion actually played out intermittently when the stake holders mounted the podium and spoke glowingly, one after the other, of the contributions of Peace through AMAA which finally placed Nollywood in position of respect before the international community.
