An FCT High Court, on Wednesday adjourned till December 1 and 2 for further defence in the case of alleged extra-judicial killings of six Igbo traders by the police in Abuja in 2005.
At the resumed hearing before the FCT Chief Judge, Justice Ishaq Bello on Wednesday, one of the Defendants, Nicholas Zakaria, Assistant Inspector of Police (1) gave his defence.
NAN recalls that the police officers standing trial in the case are; Danjuma Ibrahim (first defendant), Othman Abdulsalami (2nd defendant, now at large), Nicholas Zakaria (third defendant), Ezekiel Acheneje (fourth defendant), Baba Emmanuel (fifth defendant) and Sadiq Salami (6 defendant).
They are charged with culpable homicide for allegedly killing Ifeanyi Ozor, Chinedu Meniru, Isaac Ekene, Paulinus Ogbonna, Anthony Nwodike and Augustina Arebun, a lady.
Zakaria in his evidence of chief led by his counsel, Mr Mohammed Tola, denied having anything to do with the killing of the two remaining victims.
The two victims were the surviving ones among the six who were allegedly killed later.
He also confessed that at his rank as an ASP 1, he was not allowed to use an AK47, only pistol.
The prosecution counsel, Mamman Usman (SAN), during cross-examination, insisted that the fifth accused, Baba Emmanuel who was among the team shot the lady..
Zakaria insisted that he did not know and did not see him shoot the lady and that junior officers like Emmanuel were not allowed to carry arms. (NAN)
