Breaking: Biafra protesters shake Anambra for second straight day; march to Awka

A mass procession and peaceful protest by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is shaking Anambra for the second straight day.

A report just reaching News Express says thousands of the Biafranists are marching towards the state capital Awka to protest the continued detention of their leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the Director of Radio Biafra, who remains detained by the Department of State Security (DSS) despite having reportedly met his bail conditions as set by an Abuja Magistrate’s Court.

“They are marching to Awka through the old road and have caused heavy traffic,” a source told News Express on phone from Onitsha.

News Express reports that the first day of the protests, yesterday, turned bloody when one person was shot dead while commercial and other activities were in the commercial city of Onitsha and its environs.

Vehicular movements were disrupted along the Onitsha Enugu Expressway, Onitsha Owerri Road, Uga Atani Ogbaru Local Government Road, Onitsha Aguleri, Nsugbe, Nkwelle Ezunaka Roads, Old and New Market Roads, Nkpor, Ogidi, Obosi Roads, thereby causing traffic gridlocks on all the roads within and outside Onitsha.

Across the Niger Bridge, Biafran protesters held Asaba hostage in the afternoon, demanding the release of Kanu.
