FRSC to establish vehicle number plates plant in Kano

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Wednesday said it would establish a mini plant for motorcycles and tricycles number plate production in Kano state.

The Corps Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, disclosed this at a rally and flag-off of the commission’s Ember Months Road Safety Campaign for the North West in Kano.

Oyeyemi said the commission would also establish additional license centres in the state.

“The decision to establish a mini plant in Kano is based on the fact that the state has the highest number of motorcycle and tricycle operators in the country.

“So, establishing additional license centres in the state will enable drivers access the document without difficulty.”

He said the corps would ensure compliance with traffic rules and regulations to reduce rate of crashes on the highways across the country.

Oyeyemi commended the state government for constructing flyovers and footbridges within the city and for rehabilitating some major roads.

He noted that the efforts had greatly assisted in reducing traffic congestion and accidents in the metropolis.

On the campaign, the corps marshal said its essence was to sensitise and enlighten the public on the need to comply with traffic rules and regulations as well as reduce the number of lives and property lost to road accidents.

“Life has no replacement. We are moving towards December, hence, our decision to organise this rally and flag-off the campaign.”

In his remark, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, said the state would partner with the corps to reduce the rate of road accidents.

Ganduje, represented by the Managing Director, Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Hadi Zarewa, said the state had taken steps to reduce road crashes.

Some of the steps, he said, include the establishment of KAROTA and Kano Road Management Agency (KARMA). (NAN)
