Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, had a scary experience yesterday when the tyre of the car in which he was travelling suddenly blew out along the Lagos – Sagamu Expressway in the country’s South-West.
The retired Army General and one-time military Head of State, however, escaped unhurt and continued his journey in another car, the National Coordinator, FRSC Celebrity Special Marshals, Mr. Chris Kehinde Nwandu, said late last night.
Mr. Nwandu in a WhatsApp broadcast at 11:04 p.m. quoted FRSC Head, Media and Strategy, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, as saying: “The vehicle conveying the former leader had a blown out tyre along the Lagos – Sagamu Expressway. He promptly alighted from his vehicle and continued his journey in his back-up vehicle. The tyre of the vehicle was changed and left the scene without any incident.”
News Express reports that Obasanjo, 78 last March, was Nigeria’s military ruler from February 13, 1976 to September 30, 1979 and served two terms as a democratically elected President from May 29, 1999 to May 29, 2007. Married with children and grand children, he is also a successful farmer, author and international statesmen.
