The Nigeria Police said it would take delivery of 200 units of the first batch of its housing scheme for its officers in December.
Police spokesperson, AACP Olabisi Kolawole, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.
“According to discussions and meetings that I have held with the Nigeria Police Force Properties and Development Construction Limited, they said they will deliver the first batch by December.”
She said the housing units “are spread across Adamawa, Enugu, Edo and Katsina states.
“The IGP is very passionate about the welfare of the Nigerian policemen, while encouraging them to develop their capacities; he also promised to look into their welfare.
“As a result, he has initiated a housing scheme for some categories of officers.”
Kolawole said the pilot scheme would be for inspectors and rank and file of the force, adding that there were also plans by the force to build houses for the senior officers.
“There are plans by the police to build houses for the senior officers but the IGP wants to start with the inspectors and rank and file.”
Kolawole said there was no particular amount and completion date fixed for the project as it would be in stages.
“The completion period as well as amount cannot be fixed as I said because it is going to be in batches.”
On synergy between the Department of State Service and police, she said there had always been synergy between the two bodies, and there will continue to be synergy between them.
