The MD, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, Prof Monday Igwe
By CHARLES IWUOHA
Staff of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, on Thursday, passed a vote of confidence on the Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Monday Igwe and his management team.
The members of staff of the hospital under the aegis of Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) and Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) gave the vote of confidence for the monumental development strides achieved by the Igwe’s led management.
The members of staff, who gave the unanimous support chanting: “Igwe will continue to Lead Us” and “Only Igwe We Know”, made this known after a joint union meeting at the hospital.
Speaking to newsmen, the Chairman of JOHESU in the hospital, Mr. Friday Oduburu, said that the hospital had made tremendous progress under the leadership of Igwe and his management team within the past three years.
Oduburu noted that the once elusive cordial working and peaceful environment in the hospital had been restored under Igwe, adding: “We enjoy industrial peace in the hospital since God answered our age-long prayer for it”.
According to him, prior to his assumption of office in April 2019, the poor state of affairs in the hospital was a well-known fact to all the staff as unnecessary crises negatively affected our progress.
He said: “Staff welfare has been taken as a priority by the present administration; no salary arrears, no promotion arrears and staff training has become a regular occurrence to enhance productivity.
“Conversion of staff who has additional qualification, which was stalled by past administration, has been addressed by the present administration.
“Staff relationship and collaboration have improved tremendously unlike in the past where the previous management ensured that communication and relationship among staff was broken just as things are done transparently by the administration.”
The chairman said that the present administration had procured psychological instruments and equipment especially the electroconvulsive therapy machine and electroencephalogram machine.
Oduburu said that Igwe’s administration had computerized revenue collection points, pharmacy, medical records and medical laboratory units as well as renovated and furnished nursing administration complex.
“The administration furnished the hospital’s board room; completed and furnished the new multipurpose complex; renovation of sports complex and procurement of sporting equipment and reactivation of moribund co-operative societies and establishment of new ones among others,” he said.
Contributing, the President of ARD in the hospital, Dr. Ferguson Mbachu, noted that staff working at the hospital are “enjoying divine peace”, adding that Igwe and his management team had been producing positive and verifiable results.
Mbachu said: “In the current leadership of Prof. Monday Igwe, the hospital has achieved improved health service delivery to the satisfaction of most of our patients and their relations.
“Igwe’s administration has a human face and cares for the welfare of staff as well as patients admitted here.
“We have no issue in the hospital and we are equivocally passing a vote of confidence and almost trust on Igwe and his management team to continue unhindered.”
