Road accident claims 30 in Oyo in September

Mr. Yusuf Salami, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC),Oyo state command, has said that 30 persons lost their lives from road accident in the state in September.

Salami told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Wednesday that the 30 victims died from 27 road crashes recorded during the period in review.

“The victims of these crashes were made up of 16 males, 10 females and four children.

“Apart from those who died, 125 people sustained various levels of injuries,” Salami said, adding that the highest number of the road crashes was recorded on Ibadan-Lagos axis.

“We recorded about seven road accidents on the Ibadan-Lagos route from Oluyole area of the state down to the Lagos toll gate.”

The commander, who decried the influx of motorcycle operators popularly called ‘Okada’ into the state, said 13 motorcycle crashes were recorded in September.

“We observed that more Okada riders are coming into the state from states where Okada has been banned as means of transportation.”

Salami called on motorists to abide by road safety rules and regulations in order to reduce the number of crashes in the months ahead.

“We are in the ember months and I advise drivers especially commercial drivers not to drive recklessly.

“There is no demon killing anyone during this period. When accidents happen, it is purely human factor and not demons.” (NAN)
