Sharia court orders trader remanded in prison custody over ram theft

A Sharia Court at Sabon Gari in Kano, on Wednesday remanded a 25-year-old trader, Ibrahim Abba, in prison custody over alleged theft of a ram.

Abba, a resident of Fagge Quarters in Kano metropolis, is charged with stealing, an offence which contravenes Section 133 of Kano State Sharia Law, 2000.

The prosecutor, Mr. Ahmed Magawata told the court that on September 22, one Malam Auwalu Ammani of Fagge Quarters, Kano, reported the case at the Fagge Divisional Police Station, Kano.

“The complainant said that at 12.30 p.m., Abba stole a ram valued N20, 000 at Wapa Round-About Kano, which belonged to him.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that when the plea of the accused was taken, he pleaded guilty, and the Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Ayagi, ordered him to be remanded in prison custody.

He adjourned the case to October 9, for judgment. (NAN)
