Delta state government has approved N400 million to finance its students' assistance scheme. Mr. Jude Senebe, the Commissioner for Higher Education, made the statement on Tuesday in Asaba while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting of the State Executive Council.
He said the money would be utilised to pay bursary and scholarship for students, who registered for the scheme.
“The N400 million was approved by the immediate past administration, but it was not released; 31,859 students have been verified to benefit from it.”
The Commissioner said that verification of the beneficiaries was still on, adding that loopholes had been discovered in the operations of the scheme over the years.
“The verification will help us correct such loopholes; we want to have a system that is clean.” (NAN)
