Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has announced that joint security guards would soon be set up for the state.
He disclosed this yesterday in Abakaliki while receiving the new Commissioner of Police for the State, Mrs Peace Abdallah.
Governor Umahi, who was full of praises for the immediate past Commissioner of Police, Mr Maigari Dikko, said the aim was to ensure that his administration achieved the needed peace in the state.
He said: “I am very impressed with the Nigeria police of today. There is nothing as good as helping people to resolve their differences. There is nothing good as honest and uprightness.”
The governor pledged the commitment of his administration to fully partner the police in the state to ensure a free-crime society, especially during the ember months.
He described the posting of Abdallah as an act of God, and promised to put traffic lights in the police barracks.
Governor Umahi also directed the Commissioner for Water Resources, Francis Orji, to ensure that water ran 24 hours in the barracks latest by end of this month.
In her remark, the new Commissioner of Police appreciated Governor Umahi for his support for the police and urged him not to relent.
She said the command would depend on key stakeholders of the state and communities to succeed.
Abdallah said: “We are not up to 3,000 policemen in Ebonyi State; it is evident that without the community we serve, we cannot succeed.
“We will partner with the community by reaching out to the stakeholders in Ebonyi State.”
Before the two spoke, they decorated the governor’s Aide de Camp, Mr Ogbonnaya Nwota, with his new rank of Superintendent of Police
