Assembly urges Al-Makura to reconstruct collapsed bridges

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday urged the state government to reconstruct all collapsed bridges across the state, to reduce the people's hardship and boost their socio-economic activities.

The house passed the resolution after deliberating on a motion raised under a matter of public interest by Mr. Mohammed Sani (APC-Obi 1) at the floor of the house in Lafia.

“I want to raise an important issue concerning my constituency, especially the construction of Agyaragu/Agaza Bridge, because the collapse of the bridge has led to the death of six people.

“I want to call on you to support my motion to enable the state government to reconstruct the bridge and reduce the untold hardships traders and people of my area face due to the collapse of the bridge.”

Mr. Abubakar Kana (APC-Kokona West) seconded the motion and urged the government to complete Bokoko Bridge in Kokona Local Government Area.

Alhaji Mohammed Alkali (PDP-Lafia North), Mr Peter Mbucho (PDP-Akwanga North) and Mr. Makpa Malla (APC-Wamba) called for the reconstruction of damaged bridges in Fada Bona North and South, and others in Akwanga North constituency.

They said the effort would improve the economy and the revenue base of the state, considering the number of cash and food crops produced in the areas.

Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe, the Speaker of the house, directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolution to the governor for necessary action.

“The assembly is hereby urging the state governor to take assessment and reconstruct all collapsed bridges across the state in the interest of peace and economic development of the people.

“We are also urging all contractors handling various bridges across the state to ensure their timely completion.” (NAN)
