Ekiti to revoke ownership of undeveloped plots

The Ekiti State Government on Monday threatened to revoke ownership of undeveloped plots of land in all parts of the state, especially plots in government-owned housing estates.

The state Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Tayelolu Otitoju gave the warning while hosting residents of Omisanjana Housing Estate in Ado Ekiti.

He explained that the move had become necessary to curtail security threat posed to innocent residents of the estates.

The commissioner said that criminals had been using undeveloped plots overgrown with weeds, as hideouts to unleash terror in the neighbourhood.

He, therefore, charged the land owners to immediately develop them or forfeit ownership of such property.

Otitoju also warned developers who had erected structures on lands allocated to them without paying the required fees to immediately pay up or lose such property.

He said the warning was in response to public outcry by residents on the menace of hoodlums in the estates.

NAN reports that the Chairman of the Landlords Association in the Area, Mr. Dayo Falua had complained that hoodlums used the bushy and undeveloped land as cover to wreak havoc on innocent residents in the area.

He stressed the need to compel the owners of the land to either develop or clear it. (NAN)
