Compliance with fiscal responsibility act will eradicate corruption -- Commission

The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) has said that compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Act by revenue generating agencies will help to eradicate corruption in Nigeria.

This is contained in a statement on Monday in Abuja by the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. AbdulGaniyu Aminu.

According to it, the commission sees the organisation of a workshop to help revenue generating agencies to stop to short change the federal government necessary.

It stated that the FRC planned to discuss with the accounting, budget and procurement officers from various revenue generating agencies at the federal level on being fiscally responsible.

“Fiscal responsibility is the greatest weapon to fight corruption.

“Our workshop is to create awareness as well as further enlighten participants and stakeholders on the provision of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007.

“It is also to ensure compliance with the relevant sections of the Act, particularly in the area of prompt remittance of operating surplus by MDAs.

“Our aim is to deepen fiscal discipline, accountability, transparency and budgetary processes in public finance.”

In the statement, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, the Nigeria Ports Authority, the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Nigeria Customs Service are among many other public agencies to attend the workshop. (NAN)
