Governor Peter Obi, the Deputy National Leader of the All Progresives Grand Alliance (APGA), has reassured party faithful in Nigeria and overseas that party is course despite recent court rulings that gave contrary impression.
He gave the assurance yesterday in Awka, the state capital, while addressing a meeting of APGA state executives.
Obi said that continuity was imperative and that the APGA government in Anambra has acquitted itself well, thus purring the party in good stead to retain power in the state. He urged the party leadership to intensify mobilisation at the grassroots ahead of the forthcoming elections in the state.
Meanwhile, APGA National Chairman, Chief Maxi Okwu, has assured that Monday’s Federal High Court Awka order restraining him from hodling the office would son be vacated. Okwu in a statement published on his facebook wall however announced the suspension of activivities pending the reversal of the court order obtained by Chief Victor Umeh’s camp.
Said Okwu: “I have received an e-copy of the controversial order made on 15th April 2013 in suit nos. FHC/AWK/CS/88/2013 Charles Nwazojie for himself and others AND INEC and 5 others including my humble self. The suit was filed on the 15th and the order granted the same day. We were not put on notice and as we speak the order has not been served on me. As Counsel with 35 years experience I will abide by that direct Court Order on me until it is set aside. I concede that the plaintiffs who are merely surrogates of our political opposition have scored a Pyrrhic victory, as it will be set aside shortly. This is the third suit against us by Victor Umeh and his surrogates in the Federal High Courts which is just one Court with many Divisions. We were in Court two days ago and adjourned till 7th May 2013. The ANYI AGABA political train has met a legal road block and would temporarily halt to enable us quickly remove this obstacle. In the circumstances the proposed mother of all town hall meetings scheduled for Enugu the capital of Ala-Igbo on Friday the 19th of April 2013, has been temporarily put on hold. Private consultations and meetings would definitely continue. We shall overcome.”
