The District 9125 of Rotary International has set up mobile health camps to meet the health needs of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Abuja, its Governor, Dr. Mike Omotosho, has said.
Omotosho told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Saturday that the mobile camps were set up to provide clinic facilities which meet the needs of the IDPs.
He said that the club had also set up mobile shelter boxes fitted with items that would meet the domestic needs of IDPs.
“The shelter boxes contained things like blanket and assorted food items.
“The idea is to ensure some comfort for the IDPs since they are away from their usual abodes.”
He said that Rotary was also working toward empowering the IDPs through education and skills acquisition to ease their integration into their new society.
On plans for Plateau, Omotosho, whose club organised a seminar in Jos, said that his organisation would double the number of clubs in the state to meet the needs of more people at the grassroots.
“For five years, Plateau had just five clubs, we have set up a committee to work towards doubling the number to 10.
“We are are a humanitarian service organisation, so increase in the number of clubs will strengthen our membership and which implies more humanitarian services that we would render.”
He said that more training programmes were being organised for Rotarians to remind them of their duties to the community.
Omotosho said the seminar held in Jos was aimed at reminding Rotarians about the need to render selfless services and live responsible lives worthy of emulation by the public.
He said the club was embarking on a membership drive as was expected every month of August, urging members to seek for those genuinely interested in joining the club. (NAN)
